Snow Activities

Hakuba Valley” is a place where you can enjoy world-class powder snow to your heart’s content.
From well-maintained slopes that beginners can enjoy in a relaxed atmosphere to long cruising runs with a total distance of 8,000 meters, 10 ski resorts with rich individuality offer a wide range of skiing and snowboarding opportunities.
In addition to skiing and snowboarding, visitors can enjoy a variety of winter activities such as snowmobiling and snow trekking through spectacular mountain scenery.

Hakuba Happo One Ski Resort

Hakuba Happo One Ski Resort is a sacred place for Japanese skiing and host of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. The difference in elevation between the summit and the foot of the mountain is over 1,000 meters, allowing visitors to enjoy some of the best powder snow in Japan. The magnificent slopes, which can be enjoyed by beginners and experts alike, including a long cruising run with the longest run of 8,000 meters, cannot be fully skied in a single day.

Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field

Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field offers a 360° panoramic view of the Hakuba Mountains. The wide, gently sloping slopes at the top of the mountain allow even beginners to enjoy the panoramic view by taking the gondola to the top of the mountain at once. There are also slopes for beginners and advanced skiers, snow parks, and cross-country courses.

Able Hakuba Goryu

Three distinctive slopes, “Alpsdaira,” with its attractive views and good snow quality, “Toomi,” spacious at the entrance to the ski area, and “Iimori,” popular with families, and 16 courses with a wide variety of features will entertain skiers of all levels, from beginners to experts.

Hakuba47 Winter Sports Park

Hakuba47 Winter Sports Park is home to an outstandingly popular snow park. It has a full-scale harp pipe and kicker, as well as a variety of other items of various sizes. It is naturally fun to ski, but watching riders skiing in the snow park is also a great attraction. Another popular feature is that it is connected to Able Hakuba Goryu at the top of the mountain, and lift tickets are shared between the two ski resorts.

A snow baby carriage ride takes you to special spots that are normally inaccessible on foot, while enjoying a spectacular 360-degree view from the top of Hakuba-iwa-dake Mountain. The powerful ride through the snow and the beautiful winter scenery of the glistening ice trees make for a truly extraordinary experience.

Hakuba Village is a rare hot spring village with a total of six springs. Hakuba Happo Onsen, a natural hydrogen hot spring, and Hakuba Shionomichi Onsen, which turns brownish brown when exposed to the air, are recommended for those who wish to relax from their daily fatigue. You can also enjoy relaxing in the changing nature of the four seasons, or use the hot springs for private use to fully enjoy a private healing moment. Hot spring common bathing tickets, ideal for visiting Hakuba Village’s hot springs, can be purchased at roadside stations, tourist information centers, and other locations in the village.

Snow Monkey Tour

Wild Japanese macaques bathing in hot springs in the harsh winter cold at the Jigokudani Monkey Park in Yamanouchi Town, Nagano Prefecture, are world-famous as “snow monkeys. The park is about 1.5 hours away from Hakuba Village and can be enjoyed only during the winter season. Many tours are accompanied by guides who can also speak English and provide detailed explanations of the monkeys’ ecology and behavior. Snowmobiling, riding a motorcycle through the snowy mountains, is a very popular winter-only activity. Various courses are available, ranging from lessons for beginners to full-scale touring, and can be enjoyed according to the level of participants.
